NEW BEGINNINGS: MARK'S STORY
New beginnings can happen at any stage of life. Mark Henry worked for many years in the hospitality industry as a chef. Sadly in his late 40s he was diagnosed with brain cancer and spent two years undergoing treatment and rehabilitation meaning he could not work. After some time he found another job as a chef but the cancer re-occurred leading to further treatment. He lived with his family during this time but wanted to live independently. After successfully applying for his SASSA pension, he made the decision to look for accommodation and in September 2022 became a NOAH resident. He commented that becoming independent, and no longer dependent on his family, has restored his self-respect and given him new hope for the future.
