SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

TANGIBLE DIFFERENCE & EMPOWERMENT

Social Enterprise Development (SED) makes a true difference.

Formalised as a NOAH programme in 2018, NOAH believes that its social enterprises offer restitution to our beneficiaries who were completely denied such opportunities in their adult lives. Not only does participation provide additional income for the individual and their family but it also improves self-worth, positivity, hope, achievement and success.

These higher order needs are not ‘nice to have’ but essential to a successful older stage.

Witnessing older adults in the economy is a form of soft advocacy on the value and ability of older persons in society and sends a strong message to the youth regarding possibility and hope. Significantly, these thriving social enterprises also generate net profit for NOAH’s long term sustainability to subsidise difficult to fundraise programmes and projects.

Additional earnings generated in this way increases the quality of life of SED workers by allowing more choice and freedom, increased ability to buy healthy food and contribute to families. In a 2023 assessment, 49 % of all NOAH beneficiaries reported that they earned incomes above the poverty line.

In line with NOAH’s strengths-based approach to development and member independence – we are proud to announce the NOAH Home Industry. Operating from the newly refurbished Woodstock Community Kitchen, NOAH members use the space and equipment to bake and cook local dishes and tasty delights to sell to friends and family. Pies, samosas, cakes and pizzas are some of the delicious items coming out of the very busy kitchen. Some members have even catered for private events to boost their income.
