Dear valued NOAH supporter
Happy 2025! It is with immense gratitude that we share the latest happenings across our centres. We are deeply thankful for your support, which enables us to serve more than 600 older persons across the Cape Metro.
This e-newsletter highlights some of the achievements made possible through your generous support.
From the opening of the 4th Selling Seconds store, to the flourishing Athlone Garden project, these milestones reflect the power of collective support. The
introduction of the “Kind Heart Bench” provides emotional support to those in need, and inspiring personal stories, like that of Vuyelwa Sonandi, show how our programmes are transforming lives. Read all about them below…
Vuyelwa Sonandi – This is her story.
As a loving grandmother to six children after the passing of her daughter, Vuyelwa’s journey with NOAH has been one of courage, growth and purpose.
Initially unsure, she quickly found a sense of love, joy, and respect within the NOAH community. Today, she serves as a cook in our kitchen where she finds fulfilment transforming simple ingredients into nourishing meals.
”To me cooking is not just to make meal, it is an act of care.
Vuyelwa is deeply grateful for the support NOAH provides, from food security to the clinic and counselling programs which have been a lifeline for her and her family.
The “Kind Heart Bench” unveiled.
Sponsored by Livingstone Legacy Lodge through our Uthando partnership, this bench offers a peaceful, safe space for individuals who need time alone to process trauma or personal challenges.
NOAH has 22 trained first responders to support anyone wanting to share their feelings in a confidential, non-judgmental environment. While not trained counsellors, they listen and hold space. If needed, they can also refer individuals to Claudia Roodt, our NOAH Social Worker.
NOAH clinics play a vital health role.
NOAH clinics support government healthcare services, providing essential care such as check- ups, vaccinations, and treatment for common illnesses. We’re excited to be opening a new clinic in Harare, Khayelitsha in 2025!
In many communities government health services face high demand and limited resources. Dr. P. Ndomile, our Khayelitsha doctor, highlights the importance of health education: “Many of our patients don’t even know what high blood pressure is.” Dr. Anel Terblanche our Woodstock doctor adds, “The elderly just need someone to listen to”.

Help bring comfort to local children this winter
Residents at the Woodstock Centre recently took part in a mandala project, embracing both creativity and community. The elders were pleasantly surprised by how teamwork and shared ideas could result in something
beautiful.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a comforting meal of sausage bredie and rice, prepared by fellow residents, adding a warm touch to the day.
4th Selling Seconds store officially opened.
The 4th store opened in Harare, Khayelitsha in November. Representatives from local government, SAPS, SASSA, the Community Police Forum, Khayelitsha Development Forum, and the Department of Social Development attended, with Ward Councillor Mr. Anele Gabhuza, cutting the ribbon.
Selling Seconds plays a vital role in providing employment and income for our elders, while supporting NOAH’s long- term sustainability.

Athlone produces abundant crops!
The Athlone Garden project is flourishing. Since its launch in June 2024, our dedicated gardeners have worked hard tending to the soil, watering, and harvesting a variety of produce.
By the end of January 2025, a wonderful array of vegetables was harvested, including tomatoes, squashes, cauliflower, spinach, kale, lettuce, coriander, celery, parsley, mint, lemons, red onions, and pumpkins. This abundant harvest showcases the resilience and hard work of everyone involved!
